Best travel eSIMs in 2026: 10 providers compared

Plan your trip

Short on time? Tell us where you're going.

The trip planner picks one eSIM for your dates and shows the real price.

The best travel eSIM is the one whose limits match your trip, and those limits are rarely on the first screen. One shop sells only unlimited data but caps hotspot at 1 GB a day. Another's "10 GB global" plan lasts 180 days, a third's lasts 30. Refunds range from "full refund if never installed" to "store credit only".

We compared ten eSIM providers on what they publish: countries covered, how they sell data, the real limit on "unlimited", hotspot rules, refunds, and the price of 10 GB in Europe and worldwide. Aynet is one of the ten, and it is our product. It is labelled wherever it appears, and it only wins a category its published facts support.

Short answer: there is no single best eSIM for international travel. Pick by trip: fixed data for one country, a regional plan for several, a pay-as-you-go balance for frequent short trips, and unlimited only if you truly cannot count.

How we compared: on 29 September 2026 we read each provider's own pages (plans, fair use, hotspot, refund policy) and recorded prices for 10 GB in Europe and 10 GB on a global plan. Prices are in the currency each site showed us; we did not convert them, and several were live promotions. Aynet's figures come from our live catalogue the same day. Where a site blocked our checks or a figure came from indexed text, we say so.

How to choose the best eSIM for international travel

One country or several?

For one country, a local plan is usually cheaper than a regional one. In Turkey, 10 GB for 30 days is EUR 7.99 with Aynet against EUR 20.99 for our 34-country Europe plan that includes Turkey. For a multi-country trip, a regional plan saves you from swapping eSIMs at each border. See our eSIM plans for Turkey and the USA for single-country examples.

Fixed data, unlimited or pay-as-you-go?

  • Fixed data suits most holidays: a week of maps, messaging and photos is about 3 GB.
  • Unlimited suits daily streaming or remote work. Read the full-speed cap: four of the eight providers here that sell unlimited publish a daily cap, 2 to 5 GB, then 1 Mbps.
  • Pay-as-you-go (Roamless, Yesim Pay & Fly) suits many short trips a year, because the balance does not expire.

Will you share data with a laptop?

Check the hotspot rule before you buy. Holafly caps trip plans at 1 GB a day and Yesim leaves it to the operator. Saily, Roamless and GigSky state no hotspot limit.

What happens if plans change?

Refund rules differ as much as prices do. Nomad and Aynet refund an eSIM that was never installed. Airalo pays some refunds only in Airmoney. Roamless refunds only incompatible or locked devices.

Is your phone ready?

Your phone must support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked. Install the eSIM at home before you fly; for Turkey this matters, because several sellers' sites are blocked there.

If you would rather skip the grid, tell our advisor about your trip and get one plan with its limits shown before you pay. For a destination example, read our Turkey eSIM travel guide or see our eSIM for Thailand.

FAQ

What is the best travel eSIM?

The best travel eSIM depends on the trip: for one country a fixed data plan usually costs least, for several countries a regional plan, and for frequent short trips a pay-as-you-go balance that does not expire. Compare the full-speed cap, hotspot rule and refund policy, not only the price.

What is the best eSIM for international travel across many countries?

For a multi-country trip, the best eSIM is a regional or global plan that covers every country on your route with enough days. In our 29 September 2026 check, 10 GB global plans ranged from 30 to 180 days of validity, so compare the days as well as the price.

What is an eSIM?

An eSIM is a SIM profile you download to your phone instead of inserting a plastic card. It sits next to your normal SIM, so you keep your home number for calls while the eSIM handles data abroad.

Is unlimited eSIM data really unlimited?

Rarely at full speed. Airalo, Saily, Nomad and aloSIM publish a daily cap of 2 to 5 GB, then 1 Mbps; Ubigi allows a total per plan, then 2 Mbps; Holafly publishes no figure but caps hotspot at 1 GB a day.

Which eSIM providers give refunds?

It varies a lot. Nomad, Yesim, Saily and Aynet refund an eSIM that was never installed or used (Nomad, Yesim and Saily within 30 days), Holafly allows six months, Airalo pays some refunds only as Airmoney credit, and Roamless refunds only when the device cannot use the eSIM.

Do travel eSIMs include a phone number?

Most are data only. aloSIM includes a free virtual number, Airalo sells plans with minutes and texts, and Holafly's monthly unlimited plan includes a number; you can also keep your home SIM on for calls.

What is the difference between Aynet and Airalo?

Aynet recommends one plan for your trip and names the network before you pay; Airalo lets you browse its full catalogue and pays cashback as Airmoney.

When should I install a travel eSIM?

Install it at home before you fly, while you have Wi-Fi. On most plans the days only start on your first connection abroad.
