Turkey is not part of the EU roaming zone, so a UK or EU SIM that works for free in Spain can cost several euros a day in Istanbul. A travel eSIM avoids that: you install a data plan on your phone before you leave, and it connects to a Turkish network when you arrive.

- Turn on data roaming
- Once you land, switch data roaming on for the Aynet line. It costs nothing extra: the plan is the price. Keep roaming off on your home SIM to avoid its charges.
- When the plan starts
- Most Turkey plans start on your first connection in Turkey. A few start on installation, and each says so before you buy. An unstarted plan shows its install-by date in My eSIMs.
- Hotspot
- The networks do not state hotspot support for these plans, so we do not promise it. Sharing data with a laptop usually works; if it matters for your trip, tell the trip planner and it takes it into account.
- More than one country?

Questions travellers ask
Does my EU or UK roaming work in Turkey?
Not for free. Turkey is outside the EU roaming zone, so most home plans charge a daily or per-MB fee there. A Turkey eSIM gives you local data at a fixed price instead.
Which network will I be on in Turkey?
One of the Turkish networks listed on this page. Your phone picks the one with the best signal where you are and can switch as you move.
Is there 5G in Turkey?
Yes, where the networks have built it, mostly in the big cities. Elsewhere you get 4G. You need a 5G phone to use it.
How much data do I need for a week in Turkey?
For maps, messages and some social media, 3 to 5 GB covers most week-long trips. If you stream video or work remotely, pick 10 GB or more. Or describe your trip and we recommend one plan.
When should I install the eSIM?
Before you fly, on Wi-Fi at home. Installing does not start the plan on almost all Turkey plans; the days start when your phone first connects in Turkey.
Can I keep my own number?
Yes. The eSIM carries data only. Your own SIM stays in the phone for calls, texts and bank verification codes.
What if I run out of data?
Top up the same eSIM from My eSIMs while the plan is running. No new QR code, and the price is shown before you pay.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, if the eSIM has never been installed. Once it is installed on a phone it cannot be refunded, because the profile is tied to that device.
