Roaming in Canada is expensive on most UK and EU plans: Canada is outside the EU roaming zone, and daily passes add up quickly over a two-week trip. Local mobile plans in Canada are known for high prices too, so buying a SIM on arrival rarely saves much.

- Turn on data roaming
- Once you land, switch data roaming on for the Aynet line. It costs nothing extra: the plan is the price. Keep roaming off on your home SIM so it does not charge you.
- When the plan starts
- Nearly every Canada plan starts on your first connection in Canada; a plan that starts on installation says so before you buy. An unstarted plan shows its install-by date in My eSIMs.
- Parks and long drives
- Coverage is strong in cities and towns and has long gaps on highways through the Rockies and the north, such as stretches of the Icefields Parkway, for every network. Download offline maps before you set off.
- USA too?

Questions travellers ask
Does my EU or UK roaming work in Canada?
Not for free. Canada is outside the EU roaming zone, so most home plans charge a daily pass or per-MB fee there. A Canada eSIM gives you data at a fixed price instead.
Which network will I be on in Canada?
One of the Canadian networks listed on this page. Your phone picks the one with the best signal where you are and can switch as you move.
Does it work in the USA?
No, a Canada plan works in Canada only. If your trip crosses the border, one of our regional plans covers both countries; describe the route and we recommend one.
Is there coverage in the national parks?
In towns like Banff and Jasper, yes. Between them, and on remote trails and highways, there are long stretches with no signal on any network. Plan for offline maps.
Is there 5G in Canada?
Yes, where the networks have built it, mostly in the big cities. Elsewhere you get 4G. You need a 5G phone to use it.
Can I keep my own number?
Yes. The eSIM carries data only. Your own SIM stays in the phone for calls, texts and bank verification codes. It does not give you a Canadian phone number.
What if I run out of data?
Top up the same eSIM from My eSIMs while the plan is running. No new QR code, and the price is shown before you pay.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, if the eSIM has never been installed. Once it is installed on a phone it cannot be refunded, because the profile is tied to that device.
