Whether you need a travel eSIM for Spain depends on where your phone plan comes from. Spain is in the EU roaming zone, so an EU SIM roams there at home prices, within its fair-use limit. A UK SIM lost that right with Brexit, and many UK operators now charge a daily fee in Spain. Visitors from outside Europe usually pay full roaming rates.

- Turn on data roaming
- Once you land, switch data roaming on for the Aynet line. It costs nothing extra: the plan is the price. Keep roaming off on your home SIM so it does not charge you.
- When the plan starts
- Spain plans start on your first connection in Spain, and each plan says when it starts before you buy. An unstarted plan shows its install-by date in My eSIMs.
- Islands and mountains
- Cities, the coasts and the Balearic and Canary Islands are well covered. In the Pyrenees, the Sierra Nevada and some inland areas the signal can drop out for every network, so download offline maps before long hikes.
- Portugal or Morocco too?

Do I need an eSIM for Spain if I have an EU SIM?
Often not: an EU SIM roams in Spain at home prices, within its fair-use limit. A Spain eSIM is for UK and non-EU phones, or when you need more data than your home plan allows abroad.
Does my UK roaming work in Spain?
Not for free on most plans. Since Brexit many UK operators charge a daily fee in the EU. A Spain eSIM gives you data at a fixed price instead.
Which network will I be on in Spain?
One of the Spanish networks listed on this page. Your phone picks the one with the best signal where you are and can switch as you move.
Does it work in Mallorca, Ibiza and the Canary Islands?
Yes, the islands are part of Spain and covered by the same plan. Coverage is strongest in towns and along the coast.
Is there 5G in Spain?
Yes, where the networks have built it, mostly in the big cities. Elsewhere you get 4G. You need a 5G phone to use it.
When should I install the eSIM?
Before you fly, on Wi-Fi at home. Installing does not start a Spain plan; the days start when your phone first connects in Spain.
What if I run out of data?
Top up the same eSIM from My eSIMs while the plan is running. No new QR code, and the price is shown before you pay.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, if the eSIM has never been installed. Once it is installed on a phone it cannot be refunded, because the profile is tied to that device.
